Legal firepower for the rest of us.
StopAndDesist exists because the people who most need a lawyer's letter are usually the ones who can least afford one. We are here to change that.
Our mission
A single attorney-drafted cease and desist letter typically costs $300 to $700. That is a brutal price when the reason you need it is an aggressive debt collector, a landlord who will not return your deposit, a harasser who will not stop texting, or a company using your copyrighted work.
StopAndDesist was built to put the exact same words, in the exact same format, with the exact same statutes, in your hands for a fraction of the cost. We are not trying to replace lawyers. We are trying to replace the wall between ordinary people and professional legal writing.
"Access to legal writing should not be a luxury."
What we believe
Accessibility over prestige
A letter that costs $500 at a firm can cost under $100 here and use the same statutes, same tone, same structure.
Precision over volume
Every template is statute-cited, jurisdiction-aware, and drafted for a specific violation, not a generic 'stop bothering me' note.
Privacy over data harvesting
We do not sell, share, or resell your intake data. You can request full deletion at any time.
Results over marketing
We publish real case studies, real timelines, and real outcomes so you can decide with facts, not slogans.

Real results
FDCPA $1,000 recovery
A Miami customer sent our debt-collector letter certified mail. The collector called back three days later. We coached escalation to CFPB and small claims, settled for the FDCPA statutory maximum of $1,000 plus fees.
Landlord deposit returned in full
A Boston tenant used our landlord letter after the landlord withheld a $2,400 deposit without itemization. Massachusetts triple-damages statute cited. Landlord returned the deposit plus a settlement within 21 days.
Copyright takedown honored in 48 hours
An Austin photographer's product images were reposted by a boutique. Our copyright letter combined with a DMCA § 512(c) notice removed the images and produced a written apology within 48 hours.
Frequently asked
Is StopAndDesist a law firm?
No. StopAndDesist is a self-help legal writing service. We provide professionally drafted demand letters and educational tools. We do not represent you in court, do not provide legal advice, and do not form an attorney-client relationship with users.
Who reviews the templates?
Our letter templates are drafted and reviewed by licensed US consumer-protection attorneys before they ship. Individual letters are then generated from your specific intake and cite the statutes that apply to your situation and state.
How is this different from hiring a $500/hour lawyer?
A lawyer sends the same cease and desist letter you would receive from us, but bills 2 to 6 hours to draft it. Our platform does the drafting for a flat fee. If your case escalates to litigation, hire a lawyer. For a first strong demand, our letter is functionally identical.
Will the recipient know it was not written by an attorney?
The letter is a formal demand from you, the sender. It cites the relevant statutes, uses the correct legal tone, and follows the same structure attorneys use. Recipients treat it as a serious pre-litigation demand.
What if my letter does not work?
Most cease and desist letters produce compliance within 14 days. If yours does not, we provide a follow-up escalation guide (CFPB, state AG, small claims, attorney referral) inside your account, at no extra charge.
How do you handle my private information?
Intake is encrypted, evidence uploads are virus-scanned and expire on a retention schedule, and you can request full account deletion any time by emailing support@stopanddesist.com. We never sell your data, ever.
